Penny War

Avella Area School District

The Avella Area School District held a Penny War the week of December 6th through December 10th.  Students in both Avella Elementary Center and Avella JR/SR High School participated in this competition.  The grade level in each building that raised the most money won a pizza party with a Christmas movie theater style.  Avella Elementary celebrated the Kindergarten classes and Avella JR/SR High School celebrated the Senior class for raising the most money during this week.  It was an amazing opportunity for our families and students to give back to the Washington community.  They raised over $4700 in one week.  On Monday, December 21, 2021 Meghan Cottle the elementary guidance counselor, Alex Nikolopoulous the high school guidance counselor, Kailyn Smitsky (sixth grader), Claire Fedek (sixth grader), Lynsee Brown (senior), and Alton Chase (senior) delivered the donation on behalf of the school district.  Captain Jason at the Salvation Army was overjoyed with the donation.  He welcomed the staff and students with an overview of the Salvation Army and all the ways the donation will benefit individuals within the community.  This has been a great experience for our students and staff.  We wanted to take the opportunity to share their great accomplishments.
